Spring Break: Capitol Reef

The drive to Capitol Reef was beautiful! There was one crazy stretch of the drive that was on the top of a ridge. It was drop offs on both sides. SO scary! It was about an hour and a half. We got there around 1:00.

We went to a ranger class. The ranger taught everyone how to make sandstone. It involved using some plaster to expedite the process. They all had fun.
Then we hiked to Hickman Natural Bridge. It was so windy when we started. We were so cold. Then we got five minutes into it and we were all hot and taking off our coats.
It was a fun and fairly easy hike. The first part was uphill but then it flattened out.

They thought this rock looked like a turtle shell.
James and Lynnlee were great hiking buddies. They each put an air pod in and listened to music. It was so cute to watch them.

Then we walked the Grand Wash Trail. We walk 1.4 mile It narrowed around one mile and so we walked until it widened again and then turned around. It was really pretty and so easy. Completely flat the whole time.

Then we drove the Scenic Drive, that is what it is called. It was scenic. :)

Miranda recommended a place called Curry Pizza in Bicknell. We should have ordered some curry but we thought she recommended it for the curry Pizza. We ordered their top pizza, a cheese pizza and some Nan. It was all very good. I would eat there again but next time it would be fun to order curry.

We got shakes on our way home in Torrey. The place was nice and stayed opened past hours for all of the spring breakers who wanted ice cream. We drove home in the dark and I had a lot of anxiety. We saw lots of deer, two skunks and mice. The scary part with the drop offs on both sides really had me worried. I was so grateful when we got past that part.
We had stuff for s'mores and the kids were planning on it so even though we got home later that night, because the whole day started later, we let them make s'mores.

Saturday morning we packed up and got on the road around 10:00 when general conference was starting. We took a pit stop and walked through the Grand Escalante visitors center, then drove the whole way home and listed to all of conference. It was nice being able to have everyone listen without distractions like we would have at home.

Thankfully we had good weather the whole drive. We got home, unloaded, cleaned up and enjoyed the evening session of general conference.
