Jameson’s Trials

Jameson has had quite the year. Thankfully we have his stomach problems figured out. He definitely doesn't have Celiac but definitely has IBS. We’ve been able to add almost every food back without a problem. That is a great blessing!

He has had a excess mucus problem in his throat since he got his mouth expander in July. This problem has been on the back burner being trumped by his stomach. Plus I was hoping it was due to the expander and figured as soon as we got the expander out it would go away. The mucus also started at the time he started his elimination diet so I wondered if it would go away with adding foods back in. It doesn't really make sense but I wasn't sure what to do about it and just wanted it to go away on it's own.
At his well child check in August the pediatrician recommended allergy medicine. So we tried that for a time and didn't see a difference. We then tried Mucinex for a time and didn't see a change. Then Flonase for months and still no change.
Once we had added all the foods back in and his stomach was feeling good I decided it was time to tackle the mucus problem. I checked with the orthodontist to see if there was any way the expander could be causing so much mucus. The answer was no. Ugh, I was really hoping that was the answer. So I made an appointment with an ENT. I thought for sure he would have the answer. We had to wait a month to get in so waiting patiently was hard.
The ENT put a scope through the nose and took a good look at James's sinuses and throat. He was stumped. He said to try an antibiotic just in case it was a sinus infection. Then he said to start taking Prevacid in case it was Reflux. I didn’t feel good about either but with no other ideas we decided to start with the antibiotic.
The mucus was getting worse and James missed a lot of school. He felt like he couldn’t breath when he tried to clear the mucus. He would have to be by a sink so he could spit it out. I watched him struggle for a week and it was hard. I felt helpless and hopeless. I worried it would block his airway and he would end up in the ER. I fasted for him one Sunday and during sacrament meeting I got an answer from one of the talks. She said sometimes you don’t get answers because you haven’t found the problem  yet. I knew I needed to take James to another doctor but didn’t know who.
By end of the antibiotic use James developed thrush. I made an appointment with one of the pediatricians and hoped she would have answers. Normally developing thrush would be bad but I’m this case it caused us to go the the doctor. Tender mercies or miracles started to be apparent. She was the exact person we needed to see. She said he most likely has Eosinophilic Esophagitis. She recommended seeing an allergist and following up with the GI doctor.
I left there feeling more optimistic. That night I read all about it and then began to try and figure out what he is allergic to.
I didn’t think it could be a food allergy because of his elimination diet and being able to add everything back in.
Then it all clicked. The mucus started when the metal was placed in his mouth....he’s allergic to his braces! I must have said a million prayers over the weekend thanking Heavenly Father for blessing me with the knowledge and answers. I felt a huge burden lifted.
Unfortunately I figured all of this out on Friday night. I talked to the pediatrician Saturday and she agreed that it was probably some kind of metal allergy.
All weekend I couldn’t wait until today. I called the ortho this morning and they got James right in. I was so worried they would think I was crazy. I said prayers all morning leading up to the appt. The ortho assistant was so understanding and even said she also has an allergy to certain metals! What a tender mercy that she was the assistant out of ten others that James could have been paired up with.
Then the ortho agreed as well with all that James has experienced it was most likely a metal allergy. Within an hour, all of the metal was out of James’s mouth. Now we wait a few days for his body to detox but his mucus is slightly better already.
He will meet with an allergist to have a test to confirm but I really feel good about all that has happened. God is good and cares about James. We wouldn’t have gotten answers without divine intervention. Our prayers were answered.

Primary Program

I used to think the primary program was silly and  fun. After being a primary teacher I realize that the primary songs and testimonies bring the spirit. It is a very special sacrament meeting.
This is the last year my kids were all in the program. That made it special but also the music and testimonies. James and Lynnlee each bore their testimonies about Jesus Christ. Kaden and the minis memorized scripture. They are good examples to me of their love for our Savior.

Stand Out Phrase

It has been a year and a half since Marshall was called as bishop. It has been a roller coaster for sure. Something that I've noticed is that phrases, scriptures, lines of songs, lines of a conference talks stick in my mind for a time and I think about them and digest them. The one that comes to mind whenever the wife of a bishop load gets heavy is "I can do hard things." It's a great phrase and I also used it a lot when my twins were younger. Now though I've decided to add to it, "Because I love the Lord I can do hard things and he will help me through them."
Leaving to church in the car last Sunday I gave my kids the normal reverence pep talk to no avail. The three youngest were so difficult and I was in tears. So I ask myself, why do I do this? Then my quote came to mind.....because I love the Lord! Yes, there are hard days but I can get through them with the Lord's help.
In the morning when I run it's quiet and there are no distractions. I've been taking the time to just think and ponder. I never thought I could run without music or something to listen to but it's possible and quite enjoyable getting lost in thoughts. So the other morning I thought, "How does the gospel bless my life?" Many things came to mind. It gives me purpose, hope, faith, peace, guidance, and inspiration. It strengthens my marriage when we are both striving to be like Christ. It helps me parent and I especially rely on the Holy Ghost as a guide for parenting. The gospel helps me overcome my weaknesses and step out of my comfort zone.
Whenever I get a membership to somewhere I check to see if I'm getting my money's worth. Having a membership in the church is definitely worth it. My membership in the church definitely pays back LOADS more than I put in.

Saturday With Aunt Betsy

We had a blast with aunt Betsy last Saturday. We met up at James’s futsol game. Then we took her to lunch for her birthday. Her birthday was months ago but it has taken us a little bit to get together. It is fun to celebrate and spend time together.
We finished at Zeppes which has the best Italian ice!

Discovery Gateway

I went with Kaden on a field trip to Discovery Gateway. The weather was beautiful. I didn’t lose any kids so it was great!

Jr Jazz

Taggart and Kaden are each playing Jr Jazz this year. They are both liking it which is good because at first Taggart was mad I signed him up. I didn’t ask him if he wanted to play before signing up. I just assumed he would want to. Taggart likes everything Kaden likes and since a Kaden loves basketball I thought Taggart would be excited. He made it very clear in the weeks leading up that he did not want to play. He agreed to give it a try and now he is excited to go each week.

Halloween Parties

We kept up with tradition and went to the Rec center Halloween party and ward trunk or treat. James and all his friends went to the Rec center together and James was in heaven.

Halloween Parade

This was the first and only year I got to see all of my kids in the Halloween parade at Dry Creek elementary. What an exciting year it is to have all my kids at the same school!
It was fun watching the parade and weird not to have a child with me. My PTA friends kept me company.

Sienna doesn’t have long hair like Jasmine but I felt like this style fit.

We made Aladdin’s hat out of a Pan lid. Marshall is a genius!

Pumpkin Carving

Carving pumpkins is getting way easier and more fun now that everyone can help a lot more!

Lynnlee’s Team

Lynnlee’s soccer team finished on a high note. The beginning of the season was rough with many girls not knowing how to play. The coach did a great job and put in extra time and practices teaching them all how to play. It paid off and they won the last two games. Lynnlee scored three goals during the last game!

Helping at School

This year I’m helping in Taggart’s and Sienna’s classrooms.

Taggart’s class did a pumpkin investigation and got to paint pumpkins.

Kaden’s class made bat’s and then made a cool bat cave to display them.

Rocket Launch

The 6th graders launched rockets. A rocket guy came to his class and showed the students all of the different types of rockets. James got a basic one. He and Marshall built it and then he installed the motor right before the launch. He got to press the button and launch it. It was a fun process and really cool how high it went.

The funny part was after each rocket launched it fell down and we all had to dodge falling rockets. It became quite comical as parents were running all over the school field to avoid a rocket hitting them.

Funny Kids

One afternoon I was working on the computer. Kaden, Taggart and Sienna came up to me with their sunglasses and hats on. I love capturing memories like this. They had so much fun pretending  and playing .

Classic Fun Night

Our school PTA sponsored a night at Classic Skating. Everyone had a friend there so that made it even more fun!

Scarecrow Festival

We enjoyed celebrating my mom’s birthday at the scarecrow festival.
