Who doesn’t love a good before and after?

When we were designing our house we had to decide what we wanted to upgrade. There was a long list and we couldn’t upgrade everything. In the end we decided to upgrade things we couldn’t do on our own. Cabinets were something we could do on our own. 

The original cabinets are knotty alder. They are very pretty but to me it feels woodsy. I feel like I should decorate with bears and pine trees. 

I don’t have a lot of experience with painting but I’m willing to learn. It’s a lot of time and work but in the end it will save lots of $$ and be worth it.

I stared with the main floor half bathroom first. I chose a blue gray paint. I went to Sherwin Williams hoping they would help me with the best paint and supplies for painting cabinets. 

Turns out the guy helping me didn’t really have experience. The first roller I used was to furry. The paint was so thick that it left a funky texture. I switched to a sponge roller and that helped a lot. In the end I did a brush for the final coat. The paint leveled itself. 

I’ve learned a lot so I think I’m ready to tackle the kitchen cabinets next. 

Lynnlee’s First Temple Trip

It is hard to get an appointment in the temple baptistery these days. This is the year Lynnlee gets to go and I found an appointment for her by herself during the day at the end of the month. That’s not quite as nice as gling with a group. A friend in my ward posted this week that she had extra spots. 

I was able to take Lynnlee and two friends in the ward and their moms came with as well.

It was a very nice morning. Lynnlee had a great experience!

Harlem Globetrotters

When your sisters sends you a text and says she has box tickets to the Harlem Globetrotters that night, you rearrange everything and go!

It was simply amazing that everything was able to be rearranged or rescheduled and we all got to go! 

This was our first time going. You might wonder what they do there, I did before going. 

I would describe it as a scripted basketball game with tricks and comedy mixed in.

Betsy was working in a lounge close to our box so she came and visited us and we visited her during the game.

Lynnlee is still building her selfie slideshow so we added this to it. 

Monster Jam

Kade asked Santa for Monster Jam tickets and Santa delivered. He had the best time! Aunt Betsy was working at the event so they got to see her too which was an awesome bonus!

Mud

Building a new house has lots of great things but it also has some cons. At the top of the list cons is not having a finished yard. This wasn’t as big of deal with our first house but it’s a little more tricky this time. The ground is very muddy and we have a dog. I’ve washed off Chewie a lot  the last few days. 

We also have a child who hasn’t quite realized what happens when you walk through the yard. 

Butterfly Biosphere

My parents gave us a membership to Thanksgiving Point for Christmas. We are excited to go a lot this year!

Butterfly Biosphere was our first venue.

The small black butterfly landed on my shoe. Everyone took turns holding it. Then Kade saw the bigger butterfly and everyone got to hold it.

Living Cinema

We are trying out something new. It’s called Living Cinema. Basically what it is, is a special movie showing and a guest appearance of someone from the movie.

We went to our first movie and saw Otherside of Heaven 2. It was hosted by Jason Wade, main character in Seventeen Miracles. He’s also in Love Kennedy, Saints and Soldiers, Cokeville Miracle, and Out of Liberty. He was so nice and down to earth.

Elder Groberg was there and spoke at the beginning and then answered questions at the end. He was so kind and humble. It was a really neat experience meeting him and a few of his daughters.

Racquetball Court

The driving force behind building our new house was the racquetball court. So I thought I’d do a post about that.

The court is part of our unfinished basement. Hopefully we will be finishing the court soon! 

The court is on the side of the house and you enter in the basement and you can look in the court from windows in the family room. The windows are tempered glass.

(The lights are off in the court so the windows are dark) I love knowing what’s going on in the court and being able to talk to who is in there.

This is what the court looks like for now. It is great for dodge ball, pickle ball, spike ball, wall ball and riding around on a scooter. It will only get better when it’s finished. Soccer, basketball and of course racquetball will be so fun!!
