The ball started rolling a year ago. We were feeling cramped. Mostly when our kids had friends over. Also needing more space to get energy out. It has always been a dream of mine to have an indoor sports court. Growing up I babysat for a family who had an indoor court. It was so fun! It seemed unlikely until I walked through a home being built in Vineyard with an indoor sports court. Then it seemed doable.
We thought about adding on to our current house. We thought about buying our neighbor’s house and using their detached garage as a court. Neither felt right.
Arive Homes bought the field behind us so we decided we would buy a lot and build a house. We met with a sales agent and asked if we would be able to add a sports court on one of their floor plans. The agent said it was possible. That got the ball rolling quicker.
Arive also bought the field to the west of us and those lots were open for bidding in January 2021. We felt better about bidding on one instead of waiting until the lots behind us were ready. Those lots won’t be ready until 2022.
We secured a lot at the end of January. I was still holding my breath because we hadn’t gotten any official approval for the sports court. We met with the designer and architect in February and still were crossing our fingers we would build the court. In March and April we finally found out we could build the court on to the floor plan. Relief!
We finished with the design center in May. Our last appointment was on my birthday.
Our hole was dug in June and the house will be finished next month.
So our current house is officially on the market. It’s amazing what we were able to clean, pack and organize in a few weeks to be ready for it to be listed. You can check out the listing here.
