Training: Week 5

Week 5

Swim: 1.2 miles

Bike: 18.38 miles

Run: 8 miles

We had a busy morning so I started my swim when the pool opened but it would have been nice to start earlier so I could have had time for a longer bike ride. That is one nice thing about marathon training. I can start as early as I need to. During my last marathong training there were a few times Marshall dropped me off at the top of Suncrest at 3:30 am so I could get a 21 mile run in by 7:30 am. With triathlon training I'm bound by the pool hours. I did a 30 mile bike during the week so I figure it is ok if I biked shorter today.

This week I focused on bike speed swim speed. I did some speed workouts Tuesday and Thursday in the pool and that helped in my overall time today. When I rode Tuesday and Friday I tried to go at a faster speed for the majority of the ride.

Things that went well this week was that I felt like I had plenty of energy, and nutrition was good. The one thing that didn't go well was chaffing while running with my bike shorts but that will be an easy fix.

Summer Fun

Charlie's family is in town we filled up every free second spending time with them this week.

We spent the afternoon at Deer Creek.

We had dinner at my parents and hung out.

Chewie and Rex get along sometimes. This time they both wanted to come inside and I liked how they had the same look on their faces.

We spent a day at Splash Summit.

It was a lot of fun at the Lehi parade.

We are looking forward to more cousin time with everyone else coming to visit next week!

Fly Boarding

When it comes to friends, James hit the jackpot. They are a great group of boys. They have been friends since they were eight. They do everything together.

Ayden's birthday party tops the list of fun things they've done together. They spent hours on the lake fly boarding, tubing, and cruising around on the wave runners and jet skis.

Father's Day

I’ve been reflecting on my own dad today. He is a wonderful father. He is a great example: loving, hard worker, strong testimony, getting through hard things, very knowledgeable, caring, and funny!

As I flipped though old pictures I decided to add some to this post. My dad taught all of my siblings how to ski. The patience it takes to do that is amazing!

I have great memories of going to Florida. Work hard and play hard! I love water and swimming. I spent many summer days at the pool lap swimming with my dad on his lunch breaks.

My dad had a work trip to England and I was lucky enough to accompany him. Definitely a trip of a lifetime!

Boating has always been a fun hobby of my dad’s. We’ve had many fun adventures to Deer Creek, Jordanelle, Strawberry and Lake Powell.

I’ve enjoyed working with my dad, traveling, and when he shares his musical abilities.
The most important thing my dad has passed on is his testimony of Jesus Christ. My life has been blessed and filled with peace because of my dad’s (and mom’s) teachings. That is priceless. Happy Father’s Day to my dad!

Masquerade

I can't say "masquerade" without the song from Phantom of the Opera playing in my head.

So Marshall and I are not dressy, fancy occasions, costume people. Low maintenance is my mantra. When it comes to family though-we are game to go along. My cousin Bryan’s reception was a formal masquerade event. We decided to go for it. We dusted off some old formal wear and Betsy ordered masks for us on Amazon.

Betsy played along for the occasion. It was fun spending time with her at the reception.

It was fun catching up with cousins we don't see very often!

Training: Week 4

This week was a recovery week thank goodness. Between girls camp and Kaden being sick through the night Thursday I was really tired. During the week I tried to double up workouts each day. Wednesday I didn't double up but ran some hills. I have a new favorite loop starting at Dry Creek park and running up 300 W and down 300 E. 300 E goes down the ravine and feels so country like through the bottom of the ravine. It's beautiful, quiet and shaded.

I finished off the week running 10.2 miles today. I went to the hills of Lehi and Highland. Ya know how the camera adds ten pounds? Well apparently it makes hills look less steep. The picture does not do this hill justice.

Millennial Choir and Orchestra Concert

My aunt Wendy and her family were in town from Texas (like I said in the lake post). Part of the reason they were in town was because Wendy and two of her daughters performed in the Millennial Choir and Orchestra concert in Spanish Fork. We went with Betsy, Ali, Drew, and Drew's friend to the concert. The music was beautiful. Lots of really talented people! David Archuleta performed a few songs with them. His voice was amazing!

Mount Timpanogos Temple

I came across an open temple baptism appointment randomly one day. It wasn't the most convenient time but since it was the only time available for months I reserved it for James and his friends/soccer buddies. Six of his friends were able to go. Marshall and I went as well. It was a good experience and hopefully we will be able to go again soon.

Girls Camp

This week was girls camp. Our ward didn't go to the stake camp with the other wards from our stake and instead chose to do camp around Lehi. It was nice sleeping at home every night. It also allowed for more girls flexibility around work schedules, band practices, and sport practices.
The first day we went to the park across from the temple and painted water colors of the temple. I'm on the left side, middle row, third from the end. Then we went back to the church and watched Walk, Ride, Rodeo. It was a very inspiring movie. Makes me want to work hard at the things I'm involved with.

The second day was a pool day. This awesome pool is one of the leader's brother's pool. I helped give rides but didn't stay. My kids needed me at home that day.

I went back later that day for dinner, games, etc. There was a beautiful sky that night.

The last day we colored our camp shirts, bowled, and raced an Amazing Race. It was a long but fun day. The heat was killer but we all survived. We ended with dinner, games and a devotional. Hopefully it was a fun week for the girls.

Lake Day

My aunt Wendy is in town from Dallas so we had a lake day with her family at Deer Creek. We took out the paddle boards, kayaks and tubes. My kids loved getting towed in their tubes by anyone paddling a kayak. Molly was so nice to pull the minis around.

The water level is really low. We need rain so bad. Three weeks ago we could paddle around the island. Now it's not an island anymore.
It was fun spending time with Wendy and her family. It was so nice having their help carrying the kayaks and paddle boards to the water,

Training: Week 3

Swim: 1 mile
Bike: 30 miles
Run: 7.2 miles

I started my swim at 5:33 and finished at 6:03. I had a quick transition and then I was off on my bike by 6:09. I'm so happy the rail trail is open since it is the best way to get to the Murdock Canal trail. It's a hard ride going up the hills. It makes for a nice ride back though.

It was a beautiful morning and I took time to get some pics. I had problems with numb toes this ride and I'm thinking it was probably from the colder temp. I usually have a little numbness on a warm day but this was worse. So that was annoying and took away from fully enjoying the ride. I finished my ride at 8:06 and had a five minute transition to my run.

There was a great view of the Timp temple from the foothills for PG and on my run I could see the Saratoga temple from west Lehi. The pictures I took were too blurry.

My toes were numb for the first mile of my run but thankfully they felt back to normal by mile two. My legs felt less like jello and more normal. I had better nutrition today which helped a lot on having more energy for the run. The cooler temperature was nice so I didn't feel as thirsty.  It's crazy how late in the morning it felt when I was running my last two miles. I started running at 8:11 and finished at 9:17.

Tom's and Kathy's Birthday Bash

Thursday I took Lynnlee, Kade, Taggart and Sienna to uncle Tom's and aunt Kathy's 60th birthday party. Marshall and James were in Goblin Valley for YM camp. It was so hot the days before but Thursday was chilly for a summer day. That didn't stop my kids from swimming but definitely kept me from getting in.

Sienna loved the pool so much that I couldn't get her out at the end of party. Every bribe under the sun wasn't enough. At some point we all finally convinced her but it was rough. Hopefully this isn't a new phase for her.

Tom and Kathy are wonderful hosts as always. It was fun to catch up with family, the taco bar was delicious and the views were beautiful.
